Salome was custom built to an Ed Monk Sr. design at the Alumet Tacoma WA shipyards in 1975 for discerning clients with specific goals in mind. Their specifications to the renowned naval architect were that they wanted a vessel built to classic lines, of stout scantlings, able to take on a world circumnavigation. Most importantly, it should do so safely. The design that emerged from his drawing table went on to become the owners home as they traveled the world in comfort and safety over the next five years. When found by the present owners, she had been unused for a number of years and was waiting patiently on the hard for her new owners. A two year, six figure refit commenced, during which she was re-powered with a new low emissions 150hp turbo diesel, hull and rigging were entirely refurbished, all mechanical systems replaced and updated to modern standards and the interior completely renewed. Constructed entirely of marine grade 5086 aluminum, she was built to withstand the rigors of the open ocean while providing all the comforts one has come to expect in a world cruiser. Rigged as a stay sail ketch, she offers a versatile sail plan for all wind conditions while her inside steering station makes for a comfortable all weather motorsailor and the perfect platform for exploring the Pacific Northwest and points beyond. Salome is equipped with somewhat dated but functional navigation electronics, radar, auto pilot as one would expect of a passage maker of this caliber. Creature comforts include a diesel furnace and wood burning fireplace provide heating when needed. She has a convenient combination washer and dryer, abundant hot water, separate shower, two en suite heads in double cabins as well as two single bunks in forepeak provide sleeping for six.
